The Reader Group is a dynamic national charity and social enterprise, head quartered in Liverpool. Since 2002, The Reader Group, has pioneered the use of Shared Reading to improve wellbeing, reduce isolation and build community resilience and connectedness across the UK and beyond.
With the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Liverpool City Council, Arts Council England and additional grant funders The Reader Group will transform Calderstones’ grade II listed Mansion House into an international flagship project for shared reading – an International Centre for Shared Reading.
Partnerships Manager
Salary: £20,000 to £27,000 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week

The post holder will have a strategic overview of all The Reader’s partnerships and will be instrumental in progressing key relationships, seeking potential new fruitful partnership opportunities, and working collaboratively across teams to develop a coherent approach to partnership development across the organisation.
The Reader is looking to build on our track record of collaborating with a variety of cross-sector partners who can host and promote shared reading groups, as well as those who can embed groups as part of their service provision and via staff / volunteer training. Partners range from community groups to libraries, housing associations to arts organisations, national charities and companies. Partnerships will also be key to delivering outreach programmes at and from Calderstones, to ensure reach of diverse communities and ensuring that the site is accessible to all.
This is a target driven role, and in the first year, the post holder will be accountable for recruiting an agreed number of partners, leading to increased volunteer recruitment and the establishment of additional Shared Reading Groups.

National Membership/Community Development Manager

This role is responsible for helping to grow a thriving national community of Shared Reading volunteers and group members. You will be leading the marketing activities which will attract more volunteers and group members to get involved with shared reading. You will deliver a programme of communications and engagement activities to strengthen relationships between The Reader’s core team, the volunteers we train and the people who attend our reading groups. You’ll also be a central member of a newly established Digital Project team working to develop a brand new digital infrastructure to support The Reader’s national community.
You must be a creative people person, driven by The Reader’s social mission and motivated by the plans to develop a national shared reading movement, with thousands of Readers who feel connected, inspired and supported.

People Manager (HR)
Salary: £22,000 to £25,000 per annum

This is an exciting opportunity for a practical and organised individual who has excellent people skills and is looking to further develop their HR career within a values led charity/social enterprise. With at least a CIPD Level 5 qualification and experience of working in HR generalist role, you will manage the people team to continue to develop the function ground-up so that The Reader becomes a forward thinking and pro-active HR service. Managing a small people team, you will help put in place strategies to develop and embed the HR service across the charity and social enterprises.

Café Cook
Rate of pay: £8 per hour
Hours: Minimum 12 hours per week, on a rota basis spanning 8am-6pm hours, Monday to Sunday
Contract: Fixed term to 30 September 2018
The Cook will be flexible and hands on in all areas providing a range of profitable catering offers that work in harmony with the Reader’s ethos and vision, generating revenue and supporting our wider activity.
The ideal candidate would have experience within a commercial kitchen/cafe environment with a keen interest and passion for food. You will be self-disciplined and able to produce food to a high standard with attention to detail. Experience in baking would be an advantage.
It is expected you will have responsibility for the overall daily operation of the café’s kitchen and catering processes being mindful of industry cost margins. You will need the practical skills to execute an interesting but simple menu and be capable of working alongside the Catering Manager contributing to the development of innovative seasonal menus.
Current and relevant health and safety/food hygiene certificates are essential. You will work closely with the Social Enterprise team.

This role will work across the catering provision of The Reader Group Enterprises, in the café, ice cream parlour, and events. You will work in a team developing and delivering a range of profitable catering offers that work in harmony with The Reader Group’s ethos and vision and consistently delivers a high level of customer service.
The café and ice cream parlour are open seven days a week and provide a quality and affordable offer for the local community in welcoming environments. The right candidate is a hard-working, honest and experienced individual who is comfortable supervising others to join the growing team. You will be invited to participate fully in the development of the Social Enterprise which offers many opportunities for growth and development.
