Senior Café Assistant

Salary: £7.65 per hour

Hours: 12 hours per week minimum

Duration: 6 months in the first instance

This individual will be working within the hospitality enterprises at The Reader. They will work in a team delivering a range of profitable catering offers that work in harmony with the organisation’s ethos and vision.

The Café Supervisor will be based at Calderstones Mansion House, where The Reader is developing its International Centre for Reading and Wellbeing. Hospitality is a key element of this venture, with profits reinvested into projects that improve the quality of people’s lives. The hospitality provision will create a range of employment opportunities and volunteer placements for people of all ages to develop new skills and confidence. It will also support and develop other activities being delivered within the Mansion House and surrounding buildings, such as training courses and community events. A café, open seven days a week, will provide a quality and affordable offer for the local community in a welcoming environment.

This individual will be responsible for supervising staff and apprentices whilst fulfilling regular hospitality responsibilities, such as serving customers and maintaining high levels of customer service. This role requires an experienced individual who is comfortable supervising others whilst working as part of a team with excellent attention to detail.

 

Café Assistant

Salary: £7.05 – £7.50 per hour

Hours: Zero hour contract. Covering 7 days a week. Includes weekend work.

Duration: 6 month contract

This individual will be working within The Reader Café. They will work in a team developing and delivering a range of profitable catering offers that work in harmony with The Reader’s ethos and vision. The café, open seven days a week, provides a quality and affordable offer for the local community in a welcoming environment. It will be the individual’s responsibility to work as part of the team delivering this offer and ensuring that high levels of customer service are maintained.

You will be part of a team running a profitable social enterprise that provides an offer of the highest standard to the wider community. We are looking for responsible individuals who can use their initiative and are comfortable in a high pressured working environment.

 

Café Chef

Rate of pay: £8 per hour

Hours: minimum 32 hours per week

Duration: Fixed term – 6 months in the first instance

This individual will be responsible for developing hospitality enterprises within The Reader, creating new and sustainable ways to support The Reader activity and generate revenue. They will develop a range of profitable catering offers that work in harmony with the organisation’s ethos and vision.

The chef is expected to have a hands on approach and responsibility for the overall daily operation of the café’s catering processes whilst being mindful of industry cost margins. The individual will need the practical skills to execute an interesting but simple menu and be capable of developing and planning seasonal menus as well as promoting our café offers. The chef must also have current and relevant health and safety/food hygiene certificates. The role would require the individual to show initiative in order to lead in offering an innovative menu and develop new, workable, concepts and ideas.
