The Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine Vacancy: Treasurer

The Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine (SOMM) – formerly the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine – is an educational charity that was formed over 30 years ago to develop the seminal work of orthopaedic physician Dr James Cyriax and to promote the theory and practice of musculoskeletal medicine.

SOMM provides a comprehensive programme of postgraduate courses for medical practitioners and physiotherapists. Courses are delivered throughout the UK and Europe and invitations are also accepted from countries further afield wishing to promote musculoskeletal medicine in their area. The Society’s team of tutors bring many years of hands-on experience working in many different arenas – NHS, sport, private practice and the armed forces – which brings diversity and interest to the courses and ensures a stimulating and varied learning experience.

SOMM is governed by a Council of up to 13 members who form the Board of Trustees and Directors. They are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting and manage the affairs of the Society.

SOMM is looking to recruit a new Treasurer to join The Board of Trustees to help us develop and move the organisation forward in these challenging and exciting times and ensure that SOMM’s finances are managed appropriately and lead the organisations financial strategy.

The ideal candidate is:

  • A qualified accountant or has a strong financial background
  • A strategic thinker
  • Preferably experienced in the charity and/or business sector
  • Able to offer a flexible time commitment of approximately 10 hours per month and to attend two Council meetings a year
