The Whitechapel Centre – Mental Health & Floating Support Worker

Term: Full Time.
Contract: 3 months fixed term (maybe potential for extension).
Hours: 37.5 hours per week.
Salary: National Joint Council (NJC) SCP 11 – 22 (£21,748 – £27,041).
Location: Wirral.

The Whitechapel Centre’s mission is to prevent and resolve homelessness, social exclusion and housing poverty by providing practical, realistic and tailored support. This is so that each person can find a route out of homelessness, maintain a home and achieve their individual potential.

They are currently inviting applications for a new vacancy in their Mental Health & Floating Support Service based in Birkenhead, Wirral.

The aim of the service is to support people with mental health problems to access and maintain their accommodation and to help them make improvements to their health and wellbeing. The service primarily operates on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm and provides floating support for up to 6 months. As well as drop-in sessions and telephone-based support to people 18 and over who have a Wirral connection and a diagnosed mental health problem.

The post-holder will:

  • Be an experienced practitioner with a good working knowledge of Housing and Welfare Rights
  • Have at least 2 years of experience of delivering personalised support plans and advice about housing, benefits maximisation, substance misuse problems, domestic abuse, care and mental health services
  • Be highly organised
  • Have the confidence to work well in a multi-agency setting
  • Be comfortable using their own initiative to make informed and effective decisions.
