Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills

Training Date: 30 September 2021

Hosted by Compass Counselling Services | Thursdays: 9:30 am – 12:30 pm | 10 Week Course (excluding 28 October) | Start date: 30 September 2021 | End date: 9 December 2021 | Online (via Zoom)

This course leads to a nationally regulated qualification awarded by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) – the only Ofqual approved awarding body to specialise in the field of counselling and supervision.

This qualification is intended for candidates who want to learn basic counselling skills (listening and responding skills) in helping roles, find out more about counselling (this qualification won’t teach you to be a counsellor, but may help you decide whether or not you want to train as one) and improve professional and personal relationships.

Course details:

  • Attendance requirements: 80%
  • Cost: £314 (this includes £54 CPCAB registration fee), this must be paid in full on commencement of the course by cheque, bank transfer or credit/debit card
  • The candidate is required to keep a portfolio as a record of their learning and they should commit to approximately one hours’ study outside the classroom per week
  • There is no external exam
  • Access to Zoom is essential (instruction will be given if required).

This assessed course provides an introduction to some of the knowledge, attitudes and skills related to counselling. The course will not make you into a counsellor but will enable you to begin to develop a basic ability to listen and respond sensitively and effectively to the emotional needs of others. Growth in personal self-awareness is essential to this process, and all counselling courses aim to facilitate this. Please note that the tutors are experienced in supporting you in this. However, if you are facing a high level of emotional distress at present, it is recommended that you delay the start of the course until you have achieved a level of emotional stability.

The course will introduce you to some different counselling theories and to counselling processes. It will explore what is and is not counselling, where its use is appropriate and the basic ethics and responsibilities involved. The course aims to help you begin to apply your learning to your own situations.
