This course is led by Compass Counselling Services.
The course leads to a nationally regulated qualification awarded by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) – the only Ofqual approved awarding body to specialise in the field of counselling and supervision.
This qualification is intended for candidates who want to:
- Learn basic counselling skills (listening and responding skills) in helping roles
- Find out more about counselling (this qualification won’t teach you to be a counsellor, but may help you decide whether or not you want to train as one)
- Improve professional and personal relationships
This assessed course provides an introduction to some of the knowledge, attitudes and skills related to counselling. The course will not make you into a counsellor, but will enable you to begin to develop a basic ability to listen and respond sensitively and effectively to the emotional needs of others. Growth in personal self-awareness is essential to this process, and all counselling courses aim to facilitate this. Please note that the tutors are experienced in supporting you in this. However, if you are facing a high level of emotional distress at present, it is recommended that you delay the start of the course until you have achieved a level of emotional stability.
The course will introduce you to some different counselling theories and to counselling processes. It will explore what is and is not counselling, where its use is appropriate and the basic ethics and responsibilities involved. The course aims to help you begin to apply your learning to your own situations.
