This masterclass has much to offer both emerging artists and experienced professionals interested in expanding their practice. It will look at the ideology driving Collective Encounters’ work, the ideas underpinning Theatre for Social Change more widely, and the practical realities of delivering this work in a UK setting. This masterclass will be delivered by Collective Encounters’ Artistic Director, Sarah Thornton.
By the end of the day participants will have an enhanced understanding of:
- How Collective Encounters makes theatre with communities, in particular, the processes and methodology for both workshop delivery and theatre making
- Ethical and practical challenges of community arts practice and how these can be overcome
- How to develop meaningful theatre project with marginalised groups and communities
