Small Steps “Extreme Right-Wing Explained” Liverpool Virtual Session

Training Date: 18 October 2023

Hosted by Small Steps | Wednesday 18 October 2023 from 2 – 3:30 PM | Online

Background

In the week commencing the 16 October 2023, the Liverpool City Council PREVENT Team are holding a PREVENT Awareness Week. To support their activities that week, they are offering a free Extreme Right-Wing (ERW) Explained training session, which will be delivered by Small Steps.

The session is limited to a maximum of 50 attendees, so please book early. If you are unable to secure a place, there will be a waiting list facility enabled on the booking link and if demand is sufficient, they will look to run a second session.

Awareness Section of the Training Session

Starting with a brief overview of the trainers story (all their adult trainers are formers far right-members) they move on to outline the different extreme right-wing (ERW) strategies/groups operating, signs and symbols used, any local information they find researching the area they are delivering training in and what training the ERW participate in. They also look at issues the ERW use to build support and develop on.

Counter-Narrative Section of the Training Session

Here they seek to empower people to be able to counter ERW narratives. They train how people can engage in difficult conversations, use counter narratives and help them reduce the appeal of ERW extremism to people, both online and off.

Content Warning: this session discusses ERW extremism with references to hate crimes, racism and violence.
