Transgender Equality

Training Date: 02 August 2017

Wednesday 2 August 2017, 9.30am-4.30pm – Sing Plus, Cambridge Road, Waterloo, L21 1EZ.

This training will look at what it means to be transgender, particularly in relation to recent legislation changes. The Equality Act 2010 brings together nine separate pieces of legislation into one single act simplifying the law and strengthening it in important ways to help tackle discrimination and inequality. The Act significantly extends the rights of transgender people.

Course learning outcomes:

  • Images, stereotypes and myths
  • Barriers trans people face
  • Social and medical transition
  • Equalities legislation: what it means for you
  • Discrimination: direct and indirect
  • Prejudice
  • Best practice

Transgender equality is seen as the newest area of equality and organisations will benefit from increased understanding not only of their legal commitments but how to effectively engage with transgender people as staff, stakeholders and service users.

Cost per person: £70, including lunch and refreshments
