Volunteering with WHISC | Volunteers’ Week 2025

The image features Niamh, one of their volunteers, attending an outreach event at St George’s Hall.

Women’s Health Information and Support Centre (WHISC) volunteers are the first point of contact for women who access their drop-in service. They provide one to one listening ear sessions, group facilitation, community fundraising, administrative duties and much more.

This year, they are doubly celebrating their team of WHISC volunteers.  Throughout April and May they have faced the exciting, yet challenging task of moving location from Bold Street to their new home, No 1 Tithebarn Street.

Their volunteers have embraced this challenge with enthusiasm, hard work and dedication.

They have assembled and packed boxes, done numerous tip runs, cleared, cleaned and polished. Although they have had to close their doors whilst they move, the listening ear team have continued to provide support to women who need it over the telephone and at outreach events.

They are currently creating a memory wall – a celebration of WHISC past and present.  It has been heart-warming to see their volunteers, both new and longer serving, share memories, laughter and sometimes a few tears. In all, a wonderful example of teamwork, peer support and helping women to thrive.

Each volunteer brings with them their own unique qualities, skills and experience and this diversity only enhances the quality of support that they offer to the women who access their service.

WHISC thinks they should be proud of the work that they do – they are certainly proud of them.
