24 August –
COoL Creates: Building Blocks to Freedom
12pm – 4pm
Church St, Liverpool L1 3HD
Join Writing on the Wall, Tmesis Theatre and Luma Creations at Church Street for a day of innovative performance, music and spoken word with Building Blocks to Freedom as the backdrop. Throughout the day, local artist, Izzy O’Rourke will be depicting images of unity, togetherness and hope on Building Blocks to Freedom, WoW’s wall to trump Trump’s wall.
The day will feature pop up protest performances from Tmesis Theatre that will explore freedom of movement with a chase of the ‘orange monster’, a diverse range of Latin American rhythms and dance forms from Luma Creations, young writers from WoW projects performing their work and Liverpool’s most acclaimed Urban Griot Levi Tafari.
Building Blocks to Freedom responds to recent national and international political, social and cultural developments around issues of Brexit/The EU, migration, race, inclusion/exclusion, diversity, and nationalism. While Trump talks of building walls and with Theresa May’s ‘hostile environment’, borders are back on the international agenda. Building Blocks to Freedom Wall was funded by the Festival Enhancement Fund.
This event is part of ‘COoL Creates’, funded by Arts Council England, led by COoL (Creative organisations in Liverpool), a collective of 32 key arts organisations based in the Liverpool City Region.
