We can all remember a time as a child when we learnt something through play; we learnt to communicate and express ourselves, to compromise and negotiate, to imagine and aspire and to understand our place in the world.
Play is essential for children’s physical, social and mental health and integral to their future success. Put simply every child needs the space, freedom and opportunity to play in a safe and supportive environment. But as Central and Local Government funding has reduced, the opportunity for children to play has diminished and, with thousands of children in Liverpool living in the most deprived areas nationally, our city is feeling the effects even more than most.
Positive About Play, engages with thousands of families across Liverpool during school holidays when many struggle for support. As well as providing inclusive and accessible activities for children, Positive About Play enables families to access support services such as dedicated advice line, provide children, many of whom rely on free school meals during term-time, with healthy meals and creates a pool of trained volunteers to ensure the play activities can continue.
In the last 12 months, over 22,000 children and their families have accessed play activities delivered through Positive About Play. But with your help we can do more. Donate now and help all children across Liverpool have access to play activities during school holidays.
